Join the fun during Bike to Work Week

National Bike to Work Week is May 14-18 and there are a variety of events you can participate in during this week.

Monday, May 14 – The Robinhood Road Family YMCA, 3474 Robinhood Road, will have information about cycling available from 7-9 am.

Tuesday, May 15 – Bike to the Cobblestone Farmers Market at Third and Patterson Streets. Info will be available from 10-1 – including a commuter biking display by Mock Orange Bikes. Also, the Kernersville Family YMCA, 1113 W. Mountain Street, will have information about cycling available from 7-9 am.

Wednesday, May 16 – The William G. White Family YMCA, 775 West End Blvd., will have information about cycling available from 7-9 am. Wake Forest Baptist Health will celebrate Bike to Work Week during their Employee Health and Fitness Day. Mock Orange Bikes, 492 West End Blvd., will sponsor a Ride of Silence at 7 pm to honor cyclists injured or killed while riding.

Thursday, May 17 – The Winston Lake YMCA, 901 Waterworks Road, will have information about cycling available from 7-9 am.

Friday, May 18 – The Forsyth County Department of Public Health will have information about cycling available in front of the Government Center, 201 North Chestnut Street, from 7-9 am. Snacks and T-shirts will be available for cyclists. You can sign up for the Triad Commute Challenge at this event. Also, the Jerry Long Family YMCA, 1150 S. Peace Haven Road in Clemmons, will have an information table available from 7-9 am.

Saturday, May 19 – The Children’s Museum of Winston-Salem, 300 South Liberty Street, will hold a Bike Safety Day from 10-1. There will be a bike rodeo and bike helmet giveaway (no charge) outside of the building.

Sunday, May 20 – Cycling Sunday from 3-6 pm. Streets are closed to motor vehicles so cyclists can enjoy riding the streets in an auto-free environment. Registration and parking will be at the Novant Gateway Family Practice at 390 West Salem Avenue. The 1.8 mile Cycling Sunday route will start at the Southeast Gateway, go north on Old Salem Road to Cemetery Street then return by Salem Avenue. Please note that the southbound lanes of Old Salem Road will remain open—only the northbound lanes will be closed for the event.
