Sheriff’s Office Receives “Secure Our Schools” Grant

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded the “Secure Our Schools” grant by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) office in the amount of $174,617. This grant is a 50/50 match grant being awarded to the Sheriff’s Office in partnership with the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, the Winston-Salem Police Department and the Kernersville Police Department.

This grant will allow the school system to replace outdated camera equipment in four schools: Atkins High School, Parkland High School, North Forsyth High School, and Southeast Middle School. The Sheriff’s Office will be contributing $45, 995 of the 50% match for the up fit of Atkins and Parkland, the WSPD will contribute $24, 880 for North Forsyth, and the KPD will contribute $7500 towards Southeast Middle School. The balance of the match will be made by the WS/FCS. The Sheriff’s Office portion of the match will come from DEA forfeiture funds.

This partnership will allow law enforcement and the WS/FCS to provide a greater level of security for students, faculty, and staff.
